More interesting than the subject of forward and backwards is the subject of upwards and downwards. Rising towards the heavens, rising up the ladder, rising towards the skies, space, the beyond "Into the Infinity and beyond" has a stronger resonance than going forward. And unlike a backards propulsion, the downward spiral represents something deeper and inward. Going down into the depths of the soul, digging into the bowels of the body. Downward is something internal...backwards is something eternal I think.
You enter the cave. It is pitch black. You are likely to be eaten by a grue.
